Melvin Seals, Rubblebucket and Musicians Join Roots of Creation

Roots of Creation is releasing Livin Free today on their record label Bombshelter Records, and distributed by ILS/Caroline/Universal Music Group.

The band’s management has noted: Livin Free will be available as a 3-disc deluxe collection with both dub/remix and acoustic versions of 14 of the LP’s tracks in digital and CD formats. The CD formats as well as limited edition, hand-numbered (1/500), splatter/colored, and double 12 vinyl will be available via Amazon and select retail stores on May 6th.

I never imagined that after listening to legendary artists like Sublime and Long Beach Dub Allstars religiously in my youth, that I would ever be collaborating with Ras MG, says Brett Wilson. “He is a true musician. He pushed me to the max and inspired me to keep my ears open to new sounds and ideas.

This album was my first listening experience with music by Roots of Creation. Their music didn’t grab my full attention right away. I overgeneralized the band as ‘whiteboy reggae’ unfairly.

After calling a friend that loves reggae, and talking with him about the concept that music is not defined by skin tone, I was able to see the spirit within Roots of Creation.

‘Get Ready’ introduced listeners to Livin Free, and started the album on a soft note. My natural tempo was more on key with ‘3x A Lady’ remixed by Yeti Beats. ‘Different’ featured horns by Rubblebucket, but I didn’t find the lyrics to cover any far out topics.

I do find it interesting when musicians produce a wide range of beats per minute in albums. Analog musicians take a different kind of chance in comparison to electronic dance music producers when selecting the beat structure.

‘Struggle’ is the album’s lead single, and features the soulful piano playing of Melvin Seals. His Grateful Dead influence adds to the spiritual energy flowing through Livin Free.

One of my favorite parts to Livin Free is how they are releasing an acoustic version, and a electronic/dub remix to the songs. It gives audiences of all tempos a chance to enjoy their music.

Preview Livin Free by Roots of Creation on Soundcloud, and catch the band live on the road this summer.
