The Oscars just announced their nominations for the 2017 ceremony. The 89th Academy Awards ceremony is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). This award ceremony will honor the top voted films by the Academy for motion picture projects in 2016.

The event will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on February 26, 2017It will be broadcasted on ABC live starting at 7 p.m. EST.

One positive change to the Oscars this year is the amount of diversity that the Academy selected to highlight this year in comparison to 2016. It will be important for award shows in general to expand their talent pool to include a wider range of voices.

La La Land scored big once again with 14 Oscar nominations. The film also is up for Best Film at the 2017 Oscars.

This year also marks the first time a streaming service, Amazon Inc., has picked up an Oscar nomination.
