Airbnb has launched a new project titled Music Experiences. This new initiative connects musicians and travels via Airbnb’s dynamic platform.

Sofar Sounds has been producing informal concerts in over 300 cities around the world with bands including: Yeasayer, Bastille, Hozier, Leon Bridges, Karen O and many others.

Airbnb has also worked with connecting music and their brand in the past. The YouTube clip below showcases Snoop Dogg working with Airbnb at SXSW 2014.

“We’re launching Music Experiences to give people access to exclusive and immersive music events – from intimate live performances, special pop up gigs, underground music sessions and meeting local artists and performers. Through the platform, we’re able to support up and coming and local artists by connecting people to their events and bringing their music to even more fans around the world.” – Brian Chesky, Airbnb’s CEO

A few elements that I have seen in the past that I want to suggest is connecting Music Experiences with PledgeMusic. I’ve seen bands create options to perform in fans houses and backyards. It would be interesting for Airbnb to create options for bands to charge their fans to have them come stay in their houses, and experience them practicing their craft. Some musicians even provide training. I suggest an option for New Orleans and JazzFest be added before April. I strongly feel that Airbnb should find the authentic and inner qualities of cities, and give them a true spotlight.

They have provided experiences that include film production and opportunities to learn how to produce and create violins.

It would be excellent to see Airbnb expand this program to include other industries as well. I would find it valuable to be able to stay with successful entrepenuaers for a weekend, and check out workshops they run out of their homes. Or stay with renown chefs to learn more about cooking. Music Experiences opens the door for Airbnb to expand their customer experience overall.

My last suggestion is to have Airbnb partner with Lyft and Uber to provide shuttle services at major music events for their guests.
