Gorillaz released their fifth studio album titled Humanz on Parlophone and Warner Bros. Records. The album was released on April 28, 2017.

The band also released an app and virtual reality content along with the new music. Some of the content on the app and a majority of the lyrics on the album is more geared for adults.

Plastic Beach was the Gorillaz last major release in 2010. They released The Fall in 2011 with less time and production put into the project.

After seven years the virtual band from the United Kingdom returns from the studio to deliver 26 new tracks on the extended cut of Humanz.

De La Soul and the Gorillaz need to do an entire album together. They return following their 2005 hit ‘Feel Good Inc.,’ with the track ‘Momentz’ on Humanz.

Even with less experience in comparison to De La Soul, Vince Staples steals the record with his tenacity on ‘Ascension.’

Overall, I find this album to be one of the better albums of 2017. Humanz has GRAMMY Awards written all over it, but I still want the Damon Albarn and company to challenge themselves more.

The band did well at lifting artists to new heights with select tracks, as well as using bigger name artists with more experience. Albarn balanced creating new music, at the same time holding an overall style that the Gorillaz is known for. The balancing of these concepts was interesting to me when listening to the album.

When major film and television uses violence as a cheap form of entertainment, I give them a proper critique. Sections of Humanz could have been refined without limiting creative freedom.
