BBC DJ John Peel Hosts Meg & Jack
Third Man Records founded by Jack White, once member of The White Stripes, has officially released two live recordings from 2001 with BBC’s John Peel.
Volume 1 features a live performance on July 25, and Volume 2 was recorded on November 8. This release marks a 15 year anniversary since the original performance. The live recordings had been bootlegged and shared around the globe. Their Record Store Day release gives depth to the special live recordings from an era of Rock N’ Roll that is timeless.
“As soon as they broke into ‘Let’s Shake Hands’ it was like being in the middle of the Battle of Britain.” – John Baker, The White Stripes Tour Manger
After hearing many of these songs before, even classic tracks like ‘Jolene,’ (originally written by Dolly Parton) these live tracks gave a new life to the original cover songs.
The energy and buzz shared in the room might have been circling The White Stripes around 2001, but the bond that the band shared with John Peel also made for a unique chemistry in the recording sessions.
