Anderson .Paak Brought the Heat to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre
AEG Live, Colorado Culture and a group of music lovers hosted the 6th Annual Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks with ZEDD, Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, Lil Dicky, Lophiile and DJ Cassidy live on stage.
The entertainment hosted a mix of electronic, hip-hop and alternative rock.
ZEDD
ZEDD, Russian-born German record producer, headlined the event with his high energy electronic dance music. After winning a GRAMMY in 2014 with Foxes, ZEDD has become one of the largest and most renown producers in the world.
His headlining performance matched his level of professionalism. It marked my second time seeing his live set. His original music gives the performance additional depth. I noticed him using a lot of samples. When used properly, they do get a good crowd reaction, but I am more of a fan of his original material.
Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals
Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre hosted a mix of different acts of January 27, 2017. One of the most exciting and talented groups was Anderson .Paak and the Free Nationals.
Each time I have seen them perform live on stage, the band had an elaborate way of using house music to open the show. Once the band got going in freezing temperatures, they warmed up the Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks crowd with the song ‘Come Down.’
The group recently picked up GRAMMY nominations for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best New Artist. He will face competition for the GRAMMYs on February 12.
Lil Dicky
Despite not picking up any GRAMMY nominations for Professional Rapper, Lil Dicky pushes forward.
During his Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks set he busted out hits such as ‘Lemme Freak,’ ‘Molly,’ and ‘$ave Dat Money.’
He sported a throwback ’90s Starter pullover jacket with the Charlotte Hornets. Lil Dicky also gave a tribute to Nate Dogg.
Overall, it was pretty similar to his set at the 2016 Hangout Music Festival, but Lil Dicky is still one of the best entertainers working the stage.
Lophiile and DJ Cassidy performed electronic dance music while the crowd filled into Red Rocks. The venue was close to being packed with music lovers in frigid weather. It brought out the most diehard music fans, and was a special evening in Morrison, Colorado.
One of the special parts to picking up VIP passes, or being able to cover a show for media at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, is being able to connect with one of the drivers named Rob. He has been driving at Red Rocks for years, and held a large amount of information on past years at Icelantic’s Winter on the Rocks.
Rob shared a photo with me from two years ago when snowfall was taking place with concert lighting.
With the skies being clear this year, it gave the music the spotlight to shine. Anderson .Paak was off the charts, and mentioned that the live show was the best show the band ever had.
