Explore Correlations between Health and Music

Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit recently spoke with Facebook Live from the Facebook Headquarters. His open Q & A focused on his personal experiences with mental health as a professional musician.

In addition to Angelakos, there has been several other cases of high profile musicians needing a break from the music industry due to stress and fatigue. Kayne West, Justin Bieber, Gabriel Iglesias, Yelawolf and Modern Baseball.

As a journalist that currently covers a lot of musical topics, I found it important to share some of the unseen huddles that musicians go through year round.

In an era of social media and a 24/7 cycle of demand for new content; it can be easy for musicians to get caught up in unhealthy habits that lead to destructive personalities.

Two of the best habits to practice is eating vegetables, and drinking clean water everyday. It might not sound exciting, but vegetables and water can be seen as ingredients to success.

In regards to supporting a creative friend or family member, or even an artist you don’t know much about, the best gift is to give someone your time in a supportive manner.

Each person makes their own decisions on personal intake. Each person is different, and each musician has a different view on the world. Some musicians share vulnerable and intimate moments from their own life with the general public. There is a unique dichotomy between the crowd obtaining a positive benefit from music, and the pressure created from being a producer.

Angelakos shares how the music industry is beneficial at times, as well as stressful at other moments.
