Food trucks in New York City are so popular they have an annual competition called the Vendy Awards. This event takes place on September 16 from 12:30 – 5:00 p.m. at Governors Island.

The Vendy Awards helps aid the Street Vendor Project. The SVP reported: There are as many as 20,000 street vendors in New York City — hot dog vendors, flower vendors, t-shirt vendors, street artists, fancy food trucks, and many others.

This community of startups is often overlooked as the backbone of the labor force. Food trucks fuel a large amount of working class individuals.

It is important to always check the food and safety conditions surrounding the work stations.
