The Colorado Convention Center Rings in the New Year with ODESZA and Morgan Page

Night two of Decadence NYE 2017 was filled with spirited guests getting to experience some of their favorite acts on three stages in downtown Denver.

Eight hours of non-stop music fueled thousands of guests from all over the country.

My night started off with a set from the highly intense beats from Borgore. It marked my first time seeing him on stage. His bass level was right on point for an opening act. For some acts earbuds were required, but for his show, it was high energy without the feeling that you might lose your hearing.

I casually walked around the venue and checked out the more mellow tunes from Autograf. They were getting the crowd going on the Time Vault Stage.

Later on in the evening I went looking for the press room in the same spot as the first night. I walked into the room and noticed signs up for Autograf and RÜFÜS DU SOL. I was thinking, ‘well, the musicians might be doing interviews.’ I talked with their managers for a second and found out that the press room had turned into the green room for those two acts. They were down to earth and polite.

Porter Robinson brought in a massive crowd to The Grid Stage from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. After seeing his name on several festival lineups, I was curious about his form of music. He did not disappoint with an above par set fueled with passion and rage.

RÜFÜS DU SOL was the next act I caught on stage. It was a delight to catch a live band performing at Decadence. They are from Sydney, Australia and brought a unique form of electronic rock music to the festival.

The Seattle duo known as ODESZA has expanded their sound as a band by adding a marching band and horn section for their shows in 2017. The last time I saw their show was in 2015 at Bonnaroo. Over the past two and a half years they have seriously developed into one of the premiere acts in music.

ODESZA had a beautiful opening that mirrored the intro to their latest album A Moment Apart. Once the band got settled in on stage the crowd was right along for the ride. Being able to grab photos on film of ODESZA was a magical experience. The video below on YouTube showcases the high energy and momentous occasion.

Morgan Page and ODESZA were the two acts that helped ring in 2018. One critique about the ODESZA ballon drop was a technical malfunction. Overall, that was one of the only problems during the two evenings.

Big Gigantic kept the party going with their hometown energy. Their live set felt like homecoming on a grand level. My first time seeing Big Gigantic was in 2010 on a small farm in Southern Illinois. The ability to see them rise to a headliner level over the past seven to eight years is continuously a special part of my time on earth.

ZEDD is a producer originally from Germany and now resides in Los Angeles. His blend of electronic dance music was a smart move to cap off the night.
