Two Tiers of Mosh Pits at the Ogden
Gogol Bordello is ending 2018 with four performances in Colorado. The first two nights were at the Ogden Theatre on 12/28-29, and the last two nights will be held at the Boulder Theater.
After checking in for media, the temperature from outside quickly melted away with the heat coming from inside the venue.
Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas opened each of the four shows in Colorado with their distinct Detroit sound. On Saturday night they performed a short and sweet set. In 2015, I spoke with Hernandez in an interview about the band and future plans.
The crowd started to pack in tight to the floor area of the Ogden Theatre. I could feel the pressure from the diehard fans to get a close view of the performance.
The house music blended into an introduction track that welcomed the band to the stage. Instantly the crowd connected with Gogol Bordello in celebration. It was a beautiful and intimate show in a venue that holds 1,500 guests.
It marked my first time seeing a Gogol Bordello performance, and the Ogden Theatre made for a special atmosphere. I’ve also been to the Boulder Theater, and it provides a similar intimate vibe.
The crowd was rowdy on a new level on Saturday evening. The venue has two lower levels for a dance floor. These were both in a state of controlled chaos throughout the show. One guest elbowed me in the rib, and notified me she was going to mosh in another location. I’ve been in several mosh pit environments, but I’m not sure why guests are starting to notify people about moshing in certain areas. When I was growing up in the 90s you just moshed, there was no planning.
The energy from the crowd was electric on Saturday evening.
It marked my first time covering a show at the Ogden Theatre. A piece of me would like a photo pit to walk into to grab photos, and a piece of me also remembers going to shows growing up, and wanting to be right next to the stage, which the Ogden provides. The youthful crowd sweated and poured out love for Gogol Bordello on stage.
Tickets for their NYE performance on 12/31 are still on sale via Ticketfly, but there is a good chance it will sell out by showtime. The doors are set to open at 8:00 p.m.
