Acclaimed California rock band Dawes is back with a new album and tour! Their ninth studio album, titled “Oh Brother”, arrives on October 11th, 2024.

The first single, “House Parties,” is out now and features a fun music video with fan-submitted footage of wild parties. The video and vibe reminds me of the first time I saw the band perform at LouFest in St. Louis in 2012.

“House Parties” is a nostalgic look at the importance of community and genuine connections, according to frontman Taylor Goldsmith. He says, “It’s about how true cultural experiences aren’t in the tourist traps but within human connections among specific communities.”

“All you can really do is find out what are the most essential, truest, and idiosyncratic parts of yourself. And I like the fact that Griffin and I are kind of clinging to each other and holding on to each other more than we ever have. We’re grateful for each other in a new way. But we’ve also been through a lot.

It feels like we’re reborn in a way, and I mean that with so, so much love and gratitude to everyone we’ve ever played with before! This is what it means to be a lifer, to have iterations. It means having phases and chapters, and this is a very clear delineation as to the beginning of a new one. So Oh Brother feels like a ninth record, but it also feels like a first record.” – Taylor Goldsmith

They’ve described the album’s sound as a mix of folk-rock, piano ballads, and sprawling jams. While it retains the Dawes sound fans know and love, it also explores new territory.

The band will be celebrating the new album with the “Oh Brother Tour” which kicks off on November 7th in Knoxville, Tennessee. They’ll be playing a variety of shows throughout North America, including headlining dates, festival appearances, and supporting acts for The Revivalists and Brad Paisley.
