Willie Nelson and the Outlaw Music Festival celebrated July 4th with a special picnic at Germania Amphitheater outside of Austin, Texas.
The grounds were wet but attendees gathered together despite the cloudy weather. Tami Neilson opened the event along with the doors around 4 p.m.
We arrived during the Asleep at the Wheel’s performance. The cloudy skies provided a nice break from the summer heat. This marked our second time seeing this band.
The crowd size was perfect. We had the right amount of space for almost the entire event.
Attendees were in a festive mood. The holiday brought out a lot of positive energy. Hannah mentioned that Willie Nelson was on her bucket list for live shows. I had seen him in 2013, but wanted to see him back on stage again.
The Avett Brothers were a big reason that I wanted to attend the event. This marked my fourth time seeing them live. They kicked off their set with my favorite song of known as ‘Laundry Room’.
There were instances when the audio setup created issues, but the Avett Brothers were adaptable throughout their set. When one microphone was giving them feedback, they would just hop to another microphone.
The audio setup was most likely impacted by the wet weather. We had seen Post Malone at this amphitheater, and did not notice any audio issues.
During the event, there was clouds and a light mist. It created cooler temperatures, but I was often wondering, if the rain was going to stop the music. Luckily for us, the rain and storm clouds were very mild.
Bob Dylan delivered his live set to an amazing group of people during the evening hours. He performed primarily on the piano, but also played the harmonica.
We laughed and decided to take the small amount of rain with a lighthearted view. The Bob Dylan set was fun to watch. I recently saw ‘A Complete Unknown’ with Timothee Chalamet. It created another layer to seeing this live performance.
The food vendors help create a picnic atmosphere at the venue. It was a treat to have some many talented musicians share the stage for one evening. The setlists were noted on setlist.fm.
