Pretty Lights Goes FURTHUR at All Good 2013

Pretty Lights at All Good 2013

Pretty Lights at All Good 2013

Saturday got off to a slow start overall. There was off and on rain showers during the early afternoon hours that made it difficult to gather news in the field. I made my way over to the Grassroots Stage early to catch some of Three Legged Fox. Superhuman Happiness also performed on the Grassroots Stage Saturday. Both bands did an excellent job of playing through adversity on the spot. My first set in the main stage area was the world/reggae sounds of the African Showboyz. Their set was a refreshing blend of uplifting world music that fit perfect with the All Good Music Festival overall vibe.

Ultraviolet Hungry Hungry Hippos Invade All Good

Ultraviolet Hippopotamus was declared to have the best band name by Jonathan Schwartz with SiriusXM Radio before their set got underway. The band hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and carries a heavy punch of experimental rock n’ roll everywhere they go. Once their set wrapped, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue lit up the Dragon Stage with a rich mix of New Orleans funk and modern rock. Listen in to Bean’s recording on archive.org to experience a little taste of UV Hippo from their All Good performance on Saturday, July 20.

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals Find a Touch of Grey

The tides started to turn as Grace Potter and the Nocturnals found their way to the All Good Music Festival in Thronville, Ohio. During the set Potter mentioned getting lost during the band’s travels to Marvin’s Mountaintop in West Virginia. She mentioned picking up a hitchhiker during that time in her life. It was comical how she brought up the hitchhiker’s cat that she had been hiding under her arm named, Touch of Grey. Potter used this story before bringing up Bob Weir to the stage to collectively perform ‘Friend of the Devil’ for the deadhead community. Weir may be a little grey, but he still attacks every show with the same passion and energy for almost 50 years.

The Infamous Stringdusters > FURTHUR

The Infamous Stringdusters warmed up the crowd before FURTHUR rose to the occasion for their headlining Saturday night performance. Andy Falco, guitarist for the Infamous Stringdusters joined FURTHUR on stage for Half Step Mississippi Up town Toodleloo> Uncle Johns Band> Good Lovin. Setlist and audio recording by George B with archive.org. The Werks made some new friends during their condensed Saturday night set. The Werks also performed with The Rex Jam, and did an acoustic jam on the Grassroots Stage.

The Infamous Stringdusters were unable to meet for an interview on site, but their management team did help out with a quick question on how the band got involved with their American Rivers Summer Tour and their stance on the streams and rivers in our country.

“American Rivers’ vision – of clean, healthy rivers that sustain and connect us – resonates with our core values. As individuals and as band, we do our best to be conscious of maintaining a balanced relationship with nature – because we think it’s important, yes. But also because we love spending time in the outdoors. During the summer, that means spending a lot of time on the river – fishing, boating, camping. We’re honored that American Rivers chose us to partner with us to help spread their message, and we’re hopeful that their message will resonate with our extended community, too.” – Travis Book

Pretty Lights Late Night Set at All Good 2013

Pretty Lights, also known as Derek Vincent Smith recently released “A Color Map of the Sun” on his independent label. It has done reasonable well for being an independent release. Read our review of the album with this Web Link. His set on Saturday provided an overwhelming amount of bass for the front row fans in attendance. My camera kept vibrating in connection with the bass coming out of the speakers. It was a thrill ride from start to finish.
