Welcome to our Saturday recap to the 2014 Lockn’ Music Festival in Arringotn, Virginia. Go through our review from this, and continue to dig through our back catalog of content, as well as our Flipboard. Digital content is always within influx, and we want to be able to help shape and form the future with you.
Larry Keel and Sam Bush kicked off the entertainment on Saturday via the main stage, as Keller and his daily superjam kicked off the music on the Triangle Stage.

Grateful Grass performed Thursday through Saturday, and Keller performed a gospel set on Sunday. The musicians for the Grateful Grass lineup included: Keller Williams, Keith Mosley, Jeff Austin, Alan Bartram and Jay Starling. It was a treat to see Jeff up on stage once again after departing from Yonder Mountain. After getting to know Austin a little more, I can sense that the bond of music is a powerful thing. It is difficult to balance creative energies year after year, but Austin seems to have found peace within his decision.
The music stalled for a moment before Gary Clark Jr. hit the stage around 2:00 p.m. I believe the music didn’t stop, but rather paused to give the crowd a heads up on the weather that would be rolling into the area later in the evening.
One element I love about experienced guests is the lack of drama at Lockn’ Music Festival. After years of going to other events, the attendees, musicians and promoters have now all gotten to better understand each other and the community. An element that I would like to see is more involvement from the younger generation to want to be apart of communities that want to take care of one another. Life is good when you are have neighbors you can trust.

“Users can download the app for free at http://thws-app.com/ and engage online. We are also going to be at The Pygmalion Festival later this month. We are touring around the country, and showcasing the interactive art on the bus.”

Amber & Emily were both extremely helpful in finding out more on the traveling art project. Recently I helped put together an audio based art show in Nashville, TN. The Hope We See project reminded me a lot of how interactive media can engage audiences when you appeal to more than one sense. The music that was trailered to the video was also well done. If you get a chance to see the traveling art show, stop by and say hello.
Tedeschi Trucks Band performed on the main stage with their full band, and also provided late night entertainment on the Triangle Stage in a more acoustic setting. Both sets kept fans wanting more. Derek Trucks is an unstoppable force behind the guitar, and produced several jaw-dropping moments during the festival.
After checking out their group, Wilco amused the crowd with their comedy, music and personalities. Jeff Tweedy was comical when he pointed out his opposition for rainbows. It was comical the way he needed to take an opposing side, regardless if it was being an advocate of rainbows or not. Overall, the band rocked the crowd, and geared us up for a Phil & Friends set.
Before Phil Lesh hit the stage, a lightening storm came into the area, and the festival organizers had to call for a mandatory evacuation. It only took about an hour for the storm to pass through, and when it cleared the grounds were still reasonably dry. Phil & Friends is a better group in my eye than other reformatted Grateful Dead groups. John Medeski and John Scofield are both jazz powerhouses, and to bring them together to get into a dead set is just amazing in my view.
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers closed down the music on the main stage Saturday evening. Hot Tuna Acoustic provided late night jams for the crowd.

[av_textblock]
Widespread Panic busted out the big guns for their Saturday night performance featuring Steve Winwood. It was a thrill to hear them jam together on different tracks. One of my favorites of the set was their encore with ‘Gimme Some Lovin” originally by the Spencer Davis Group.
There was a moment of exhaustion from working all weekend, traveling and getting the coverage that when I saw another worker singing and dancing along to WSP it reminded that all the hard work is always work it. The smile and joy on his face is why we all help put these events together year after year.
Hope you enjoyed the Lockn’ Music Festival. See you next year.
