Friday welcomed guests with some cloud coverage that broke up the amount of sun during the four days. When I first woke, the TAUK management team invited me to work on an interview with the band later in the day. After working out a time frame, I went to check in with the media tent.

TAUK performed to a plus size crowd on midday Friday. There were a few clouds overhead to shade guests and musicians. The weather overall still had a strong summer vibe to the festival. Fall might not be far away, but attendees were still in a summer state of mind.

The instrumental group from New York is similar to Lettuce in their passion for the delivery of analog instruments to a live crowd. Each of the members in the band appreciate vocals, but have a strong bond to the instrumental grooves and beats that they create for audiences to enjoy.

TAUK performed 5 new tracks from their latest album “Collisions” during their set, as well as a Beatles cover of ‘Shes is So Heavy’ on Friday. It was my first time seeing the group, and it will not be my last for sure.

After interviewing the band and getting to know them better, I made my way back to the main stage area to grab photos of the Del McCoury Band. The living legend always puts on a polished show with original tunes that only Del can come up with.

The bluegrass vibes filled the festival grounds on Friday, and merged well with the historic sounds of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans. During my time at the event I overhead some guests talking about how this festival not only serves as entertainment, but also as a form of history. It will be interesting to see if any schools start to pick up on the music history being conducted at the Lockn’ Music Festival.

The Drive-By Truckers were next up and busted out their traditional rock for the Virginia event. The crowd was made up of several people from Virginia, as well as a heavy influence from the east coast. I was one of the few people I met over the weekend from Illinois. The festival collects the best musicians from all over the country, and will be just a matter of time before additional nationwide guests make the trip to Oak Ridge Farm.

The String Cheese Incident played two additional sets on Saturday. It was great to see Jason Hann, and some of other great musicians on stage. Last year, guests talked about the different style in music that SCI had been going, but was pleasantly surprised with the sets from SCI this year at Lockn’ Music Festival.

In between their sets was a special superjam featuring Bill Kreutzmann, Oteil, Aron Magner, Steve Kimock, Keller Williams, EOTO and many other. It was heavily influenced by Dead music, as well as improvisational songs that blended well before the second SCI set.
