A Museum of Music at the 1st Bank Center The String Cheese Incident concluded a three night run at the 1st Bank Center on Monday, December 31. After performing two nights the previous weekend with special guest musicians; the band celebrated New Year's Eve with three large sets of live music. Recap night one, and night two reviews. Broomfield, Colorado provided guests with bitter cold temperatures and light snow on Monday evening. The venue immediately warmed attendees up with a mix of electric and acoustic rock music. As I walked up to the 1st Bank Center in the snow, another photographer greeted me, and walked with me into the press area. Guests were already packed in the venue, and ready to go. Photo by: Matthew McGuire The crowd was excited for the big block of SCI music. It was comforting and inviting the way the front row guests asked for photographs before the music began. An extended stage was setup on Monday night. Later in the evening it would be used to act out a visual story. My interpretation of the guy in the pajama outfit before the ball drop moment could be seen as a person acting out their dreams, and those dreams coming true. The male dancer in pajamas wrote in a book with a pencil that had the words 'think big' written into the pencil. The String Cheese Incident hosted a wild array of visual stunts during the ball drop celebration including: an aerial performer hung from the ceiling, a squid-like ballon creature moved throughout the audience, drone like dolphins floated and hovered over the audience, enlarged and lit balloons danced around, guests were provided wristbands that lit up during the performance, and confetti rained down from above. One of my favorite musical moments during the evening was the band's cover of 'Tom Sawyer' to close out the first set. Browse over the setlist from 12/31/18.
