Tesla Motors | The Clean Energy Transition

Written by: Matthew McGuire

Tesla Motors recently announced a new price on the Model S all-electric sedan, the 70D, for less than $70,000 after government incentives. The total financial cost is $75,750, before incentives and rebates.

The price and battery technology continues to expand and evolve in 2015. This current price point is in comparison to P85D, which starts at $105,000 and can cost much more with options. It comes with an optimal driving mode and acceleration rivaling the world’s fastest cars.

After reviewing research and data covering the emissions from both sides of the clean energy transition, I have found that the CO2 emissions generated from Tesla automobiles is overall less in comparison to gas-powered vehicles on the road.

When researching Tesla’s data, it was clear that the method each state creates energy is connected to how consumers will charge their cars from home. Below is over a dozen states with different methods of producing energy.

The California drought is showing major climate problems, and the state is currently using natural gas as their primary source of energy. They continue to find progressive methods to produce energy, but in 2015, every state needs to take a progressive approach to generating clean energy.
