Unlock the Holiday Spirit with G. Love

The holiday season is in full swing, and G. Love & the Special Sauce have a new album out titled Coming Home For Christmas on Brushfire/Republic Records.

One of my favorite acoustic guitar players is Garrett Dutton, also known as G. Love. He performs music with Jeffrey Clemens on drums, and Jim ‘Jimi Jazz’ Prescott on bass. The trio have been performing music together since 1994.

This year the group worked together and released a Christmas album featuring their classic blues sound. Coming Home For Christmas is a reflection of their career. After two decades of working in the music industry, the group can now focus on projects near and dear to their heart.

This record has ten original Christmas anthems I wrote earlier this year. I holed up in Orleans, Massachusetts for six days in November and wrote one song per day. Within two days, I tracked the entire album alongside my producer Jon Evans at Brickhill Studios with Jon handling upright bass and Mathias Bossi on drums. – G. Love

G. Love is one of the most humble and driven musicians I have ever listened to. He doesn’t continue to release work for money, but rather a passion to provide other people with heartwarming moments. After all, that is what the spirit of Christmas is all about.

This record has a slow tempo overall. It fits well with relaxing evenings sitting by an open fire. There is moments of upbeat energy on ‘Christmas Rock’ and ‘Christmas Cookies.’ Garrett went a little overboard with the song titles focusing on Christmas.

My favorite track on the album is ‘Cape Cod Winter Blues.’ It recreates the atmosphere in Cape Cod, and delivers a moody take on blues music.

Pick up a copy and share the spirit this holiday season with Coming Home For Christmas.
