Acclaimed bluegrass artist Billy Strings is gearing up to release his highly anticipated new studio album, Highway Prayers, on September 27th via Reprise Records. Pre-orders for the album begin on August 2nd.
Highway Prayers features 20 original songs and marks Strings’ first full-length studio effort since his 2022 collaboration with his father, Me/And/Dad. Produced by Strings himself alongside the legendary Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Mac Miller, Aimee Mann), the album promises a fresh and exciting soundscape.
Lead Single “Leadfoot” Drops Today
Fans can get a taste of what’s to come with the release of the album’s lead single, “Leadfoot”, available now on YouTube. The high-energy track showcases Strings’ multi-instrumental talents as he lays down vocals, banjo, bass, steel guitar, and even utilizes an EBow electric guitar and a vintage 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle to create a unique sonic experience. Recorded in both Los Angeles and Nashville, Highway Prayers features Strings and his longtime bandmates – Billy Failing (banjo, vocals), Royal Masat (bass, vocals), Jarrod Walker (mandolin, vocals) and Alex Hargraves (fiddle).
The album is further enriched by guest contributions from Jon Brion himself (on bass, drums, and percussion),renowned drummer Matt Chamberlain, bluegrass royalty Jerry Douglas (dobro), and a host of other talented musicians including Jason Carter (fiddle), Lindsay Lou (backing vocals), Nathaniel Smith (cello), and more.
Tour Dates and Sold-Out “Renewal Weekend”
Strings and his band are currently on tour, with upcoming stops at major venues like Clarkston, MI’s Pine Knob Music Theatre, Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and Austin’s Moody Center. Additionally, Strings will be ringing in the New Year with a three-night residency at New Orleans’ UNO Lakefront Arena from December 29th to 31st. Pre-sale for these special New Year’s Eve shows kicks off on August 14th, followed by general on-sale on August 16th.
