Virtual Reality is Expanding into Browser Applications with Chrome
As Virtual reality continues to expand at exponential levels, Google Chrome is in the process of creating functionality for VR content.
Yesterday, Google Developers noted a series of websites that currently provides VR content including: a documentary on nature and the ecosystem with Bear 71, tour the Matterport’s Library with a headset to get a full scope of the environments, watch stunning VR content on Within, view and experience digital artwork with Sketchfab, and try out the WebVR Lab to experience interactive art.
Chrome will connect WebVR and virtual reality content with the Daydream-ready phone and Daydream View. This will be during the first stages of development, and for those that do not have the Daydream headset, they can view VR content on any phone or desktop computer and interact using your finger or mouse.
This shows that for a panoramic viewing experience in WebVR, users will need to have a Daydream headset, but for interactive content, WebVR will also be available for desktop users.
