61 Percent of Americans Support Marijuana Legalization
Effective January 1, 2018 Proposition 64 in California will now allow adults 21 years or older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana, and grow up to 6 plants in their home.
In contrast, Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded the Obama policies in regard to cannabis on Thursday, January 4.
Twenty-nine states and Washington, DC, now allow marijuana for medical purposes.
Sessions is now urging attorneys within the United States to aggressively prosecute individuals for recreational marijuana use in the states that have legalized marijuana.
September 26, 2017 a crowd of faculty and students gathered together at Georgetown University on the matter of free speech.
Sessions takes a drink of water as he is preparing to swallow his own words as he states “the answer is easy.” Despite his speech, he later answers a question during the Q&A about the freedom of expression during the National Anthem at NFL games in disagreement of players protesting.
During his speech he quotes Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson “no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion or force citizens to confess by word or act their faith therein.”
That quote, along with his rescinding of the Cole Memo is contradicting within itself.
Sessions later quotes Thomas Jefferson saying ‘I swear upon the altar of God eternal hostility against any form of tyranny over the mind of man.’ In addition he mentioned:
“I promise you that no issue will be better decided with less debate with indifference from the audience and with voices not listen to and unheard.” – Jeff Sessions
Again he states, a truly free society stands up for cherished rights precisely when it is most difficult to do so.
As I watched the YouTube post and reflected on the current events one vision came clear to me. Mr. Sessions speech can be best illustrated by a lion describing how beautiful the inside of his den is as he invites a lamb into dinner.
