Nikki Hill and The Woodbox Gang performed at the inaugural Live on Main concert series setup by the Carbondale Music Coalition, and WDBX 91.1 Radio. Alto Vineyards presented wine during the downtown event in Carbondale, Illinois on Saturday, June 6, as well as local food and drink vendors.

The shell-shocking rock n’ roll express known as Nikki Hill rolled through Carbondale, Illinois on a world tour this summer and fall. Since 2013, the band has grown and expanded rapidly to meet the demands from hungry live audiences around Europe, Canada, Australia and the United States.

Nikki Hill delivers rock n’ roll with a smart and sexy twist. 

Her return performance on Saturday night in Carbondale was a spectacular way to showcase her talent for the downtown audience. Local music venues have been working on building a community where live music can be celebrated, and Nikki Hill was an excellent choice for the mix of families that are on hand at most events.

It was my first time seeing Nikki Hill live in concert, and it will not be my last. Her energy and talent is undeniable. She released Here’s Nikki Hill in 2013 with a collection of well-produced tracks, and is currently working on releasing new material this year.

The band continues a long and busy road schedule in 2015. Their Saturday night set in Carbondale was a soul-refreshing blend of live rock.

The crowd was upbeat and moving to the edgy guitar riffs from Matt Hill. His blues combination with roots rock creates an original sound that is captivating live.

Nikki Hill and company rocked Monroe St. on Saturday evening. Their sound emits elements of southern gospel music, in connection with early rock n’ roll, and blues from the middle section of the country. It pays homage to the classic forms of rock, and gives it a revamped style for 2015.

The Woodbox Gang rocked and rolled the streets of Carbondale following Nikki Hill’s set. The band worked with the city of Carbondale to provide a live concert for free to attendees.

Members from The Woodbox Gang have been staying busy with side projects, as well as fine tuning their work for live shows.

Hugh DeNeal and Greg Edwards perform with Hobo Knife 2.0, Alex Kirt has been playing with the Giant City Slickers, and Dan Goett works in several groups with a polished acoustic guitar sound.

Nikki Hill’s performance was dialed in, and The Woodbox Gang kept an engaging spirit in the audience during their set as well. Both acts sounded excellent. The outdoor venue was a really nice touch.

As my group and I walked up to the stage area from another part of downtown, one could hear the music from a distance. One of my favorite things to a downtown concert is hearing the sound waves bouncing off the walls of different buildings from different distances.

The crowd for the event was rowdy. A group of guests drove over 7 hours for this live performance. There were loud and rowdy in a good way. When guests get too physical, they can end up being too rowdy in a bad way. Overall, the crowd was respectful and fun.

In addition to Live on Main, the Carbondale Music Coalition has been working on Carbondale Rocks Revival. They continued to find groundbreaking local talent and merge them with national touring acts in downtown Carbondale.

After sun rested over the city landscape, the crowd turned up for the special night of music. The band appeared to be in high spirits despite the invasion of the cicadas 13 year reunion. They even created a t-shirt with Merchop for the unique migration.

The Woodbox Gang closed their set out with two smashing songs in their encore with ‘Showdown’ and ‘Devil’s Got Dibs’ on 06/06/15.
