The Next Big Thing at All Good 2013

The Revivalists, are a group New Orleans-based musicians with an internal drive that is usually found in LA and NYC artists. The band takes listeners on a heart-stopping joy ride through modern music. Each time the band takes a stage; they walk off with leaving a deep impression on the majority the fans in the audience. Before the festival got underway, David Shaw, vocalist for the group spoke with us in an interview available with the Web Link.

The Revivalists swarmed the stage to open up entertainment on Sunday afternoon. This would be my second time catching the band live, and I had a great time in the hot sun with some New Orleans funk in Ohio. After their set, the Marchforth Marching Band performed their second set of the weekend. They were also walking around during most of the weekend on stilts. It provided a festival atmosphere to the event.

The Ragbirds Live at All Good 2013

Randall Moore and Erin Zindle are a couple that enjoys spreading love and music around the country. Recently I attended a drumming seminar with Moore this past May. He discussed how using percussion as a tool to drive the rhythm of the song, even with instruments such as the shaker. It helped me understand the reasoning musicians use certain percussion instruments to carry different beats for unique arrangements.

North Mississippi Allstars > The Soul Rebels

As the day continued to progress, the bands continued to flow on and off stage. The festival invited Luther & Cody Dickinson to bring the North Mississippi Allstars sound to the All Good Music Festival on Sunday, July 21. The weather was hot and humid for most of the weekend. NMAS also create a hot humid mix of blues and rock that left most of the crowd sweaty from dancing in the midday sun. The Soul Rebels threw a New Orleans party on the Crane Stage with water guns in hand. Their entire performance is always a rowdy time in the best way.

North Mississippi Allstars

It was a treat to be able to watch the evolution of the North Mississippi Allstars over the past 10 years. The lineup in the band has switched up, but the group still has the ability to perform those live in concert without missing a beat. “Shake Hands with Shorty” continues to be one of my all time favorite albums. That album is so good, I tend to still take it back from my friends when they forget to return it in a respectful amount time.

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. was serving up tasty brews all weekend. The VIP tent was serving brews at a discounted price. I’m not a big drinker, but I did try a Torpedo brew from Sierra Nevada. It was less bitter than other hoppy beers that I have tried in the past. Honest Tea was also on site with several samples and refreshing drinks available for the All Good crowd. The food vendors were decent, but I hope to see more originality in the food selection down the road. If you bring your own drinks and food, make sure to stock up on ice and keep your cooler chilled.

Keller Williams and the Travelin’ McCoury’s Go Even Further

Keller Williams and the Travelin’ McCoury’s capped off the music for the whole weekend. It was extremely strange having music end at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. The crowd on Sunday was close to half of the size of Saturday’s fan base at the All Good Music Festival. It was a good way to transition guests out of the campgrounds though. Overall, I am very grateful to have been able to cover the 17th All Good Music Festival with Nicholas Hess and a strong group of friends. This year has been filled with several surreal moments.
