Cinema & Web Junkies Go Ape in Utah
Wednesday afternoon started with an international film from China titled ‘Web Junkie‘ that was screened at Holiday Village Cinemas. My older brother informed me to make sure to check out ‘Web Junkies’ and he was dead on with that recommendation. The film opened my eyes to the injustice being spread across China.
The individual film review for ‘Web Junkies‘ dives deep into the corruption that developed countries implement on their societies to keep them distracted from major issues, such as unnecessary wars being fought, high taxes and prices on goods, as well as high unemployment. In the United States, our country uses sports, drugs and social networking to keep the general public preoccupied and busy. In China, they use online gaming to keep their masses under control. It is time for developed countries to stop grazing like sheep, and start getting politically involved on local, regional and national levels. That is the only way real change will occur. Trust me, Hillary isn’t going to bring it.
One reason I have decided to focus on Sundance is the power that cinema has on the general public. I could say that ‘Web Junkies’ was powerful, but a viewer might say it is more than powerful, and noticed the indirect call the action for the underpinning need for social change in the film. An interesting thing about cinema is how so many people can view the same story. I saw the injustice that the lawmakers in China were allowing, and felt compelled to make a note of it for the audience of this website.
My next event landed me back at the Music Café on Main Street. KT Tunstall took the stage with a fiery attitude, (she is Scottish). During The Devil Makes Three and KT Tunstall sets of music I was live tweeting banter for those outside the venue. Her set was short and sweet. It was my first time seeing her as a solo artist. She pointed out her whistling ability in comparison to Andrew Bird. It must be difficult to desire distinct artists to collaborate with on records, and living up to their talent on stage. KT was cool about it, and did well in comparison to Bird’s whistling skills.
