The Google AMP Project Turns One with New Search Functionality
Google AMP is also known as the Accelerated Mobile Pages Project. The platform allows websites to connect with users at a rapid speed with a slimmed down look and feel.
During their first year anniversary, Google has announced a series of updates for AMP:
- Google will be hosting a two day conference in New York City on March 7 and 8. The conference will have live streams, 14 presentations, and 5 panels.
- Producers can now host carousels in search. This update will provide publishers the ability to display multiple stories within one topic.
- Google Search Analytics now has a new filter for AMP pages. It helps provide insight on the increase in traffic that AMP can add to an outlet.
We continue to use plugins made for the WordPress platform to connect our content with Google AMP. A video below shows how to add the plugins.
Overall, Google AMP continues to work well for our media outlet. When we have an article on on the Web that is doing well analytically, a majority of the time a Google AMP URL will be helping drive traffic. With our outlet working on the WordPress platform, it can slow down our delivery time. Google AMP helps connect our content with users that might have a slower Internet speed.
As shown in the video directly below, Google AMP stripes down JavaScript and additional code from the webpage, to deliver a slimmed down version for mobile viewing.
