After selling out two nights at the Dos Equis Pavilion near the end of 2023, Chris Stapleton returned to Texas with a sold-out performance at Global Life Field in Arlington. This performance was on Saturday, June 15 and featured the Marcus King Band, as well as the Tedeschi Trucks Bands.
I was listening to Waco 100 recently and noticed an ad directing people to apply for a contest regarding Chris Stapleton in Arlington, Texas. I submitted a form for their contest and ended up winning two field tickets for the concert on 6/15. The radio station called a day before with the good news.
The weather was clear but close to 100 degrees outside. It was a great benefit to have the retractable roof cover us from the summer heat. This marked my first time at Global Life Field, and my first time seeing each of these acts.
We made it to the venue around 5:30 p.m. and the Marcus King Band started around 6:00 p.m. The stage was set up on the field and had a large-scale amp arrangement. The southern rock group brought a taste of South Carolina with their set of live music.
The Marcus King Band covered Ramblin’ Man by the Allman Brothers Band. The guitar licks were extra tasty during this track. It was a fun set to get the show going. We were fortunate enough to partake in the bar behind the third base with field seating,
Tedeschi Trucks Band brought the love to the stage Saturday evening. They covered ‘Learning to Live Together’ by Mad Dogs & Englishmen. I’ve watched footage of the Tedeschi Trucks Band live on YouTube, but their live show transcended in a more energetic fashion.
It marked my first time also seeing Chris Stapleton live and I was thrilled to see that he welcomed multiple musicians up to the stage including Marcus King, Susan, and Derek. It felt like a big jam session with Chris on stage. He started his set ‘White Horse’ and he didn’t let his foot off the pedal for the entire performance. Marcus King covered ‘I Should Have Known It’ with Stapleton. The song is featured on the recently released album titled Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
Susan and Derek jumped on stage to perform ‘I Was Wrong’ with Stapleton. The music kept the crowd wanting more. He encored with ‘Might as Well Get Stoned’ and ‘Outlaw State of Mind’.
Last month, Stapleton was awarded with multiple ACM awards. Chris Stapleton was the most awarded artist of the evening with four wins, including his eighth win for ACM Album of the Year, four as an artist and four as a producer, making him the artist with the most wins in the category (passing George Strait with six wins). His win for ACM Male Artist of the Year brings his total in the category to four. Stapleton’s win for ACM Artist-Songwriter of the Year marks his first win in the category. His four wins bring his ACM Awards count to 20.
Chris Stapleton will return to Texas for two weekends of the Austin City Limits Music Festival in October. His next two shows will be out in LA and they are sold-out concerts. Currently, there are tickets still available for his Salt Lake City show.
