NYE 2016 Comes to an End with Celebratory Music at the 1st Bank Center

The String Cheese Incident continued the tradition of ringing in the new year at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Their New Year’s Eve show consisted of three live sets of music from the group.

They lead into the Saturday night of music after two nights of performing with Big Gigantic and The Floozies. Each of those shows were memorable, but fans packed in the 1st Bank Center on New Year’s Eve 2016 to get their fill of The String Cheese Incident.

It marked my first time covering an event at the arena, and was overall happy to be apart of the media team on NYE. The crowd was lively and vibrant during the evening. When I was getting ready in between sets, I did notice more than one stretcher with medical staff nearby. My goal is to help show people it doesn’t take a drug to enjoy an evening. An example is this audience member that grabbed a front row center position for multiple nights of the #SCINYE run.

Samantha Harvey, writer and photographer for Crescent Vale, was attending the event in grand fashion. She mentioned the cover of ‘Walking on the Moon,’ originally by the Police, was a highlight.

The crowd overall was dressed in festive attire. People from all over the country traveled to the Colorado Rockies to experience a night of The String Cheese Incident. At times the music was fueling the crowd with some serious energy. I found the second set to contain the most energy within the music, but the ball drop and the theatrics that took place was the most visually stunning part of the night.

The ball drop sequence was something out of the major Hollywood movie. It started with three disco balls being lowered and lite with three main lights. As that happened, three pedestals rose with dancers rotating on them.

On the main stage, there were two trapeze artists that were lifted over the crowd to add to the visual experience. I made my way to the center back area of the venue. During the ball drop, there was a merry-go-round that was hanging from the ceiling with additional trapeze artists performing.

Balloons fell from the ceiling, couples kissed, the band counted down the last seconds of 2016, and we all celebrated the birth of 2017.
