Phish Returns, Cardi B’s Debut, GRiZ Hosts a Superjam, and +100 Artists on the Lineup The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has just announced their lineup for 2019. This year Phish, ODESZA, The Luminaries, and Post Malone will headline the event in Manchester, Tennessee. The historic event will be their 18th annual edition. This multi-stage camping festival will take place June 13 - 16 at Great Stage Park. The park is close to 60 miles southeast of Nashville. A wide range of genres were announced with a bluegrass Superjam on Thursday, and also an electronic Superjam on Saturday featuring GRiZ. There is a good chance Gramatik will be one of the guest musicians for this set. The diversity on the lineup provided for a much more positive reception on social media. It is a refreshing feeling to see the effort and work put into this group of artists. Phish Phish will return to Bonnaroo for three sets of live music. This marks the band's third time performing together at the festival. Their first time on the farm happened in 2009. Bonnaroo was founded on the alternative idea of providing a stage for acts that dare to improvise with other artists in a collaborative environment. Phish embodies the heart and soul of Bonnaroo's roots. As more electronic and hiphop acts take over the landscape within the music industry, it is still comforting to see a rock band get top billing spot at a large-scale music festival. It is only fitting to give Phish three sets. Diehard fans want as much as possible. For instance, 86 Chainsmokers performances would be awesome, but they might have a few replays. Phish has a catalogue of music to extend far more than three days without repeating songs in their sets. Cardi B The first lady of hiphop has taken the throne, and is bringing her seductive sound to Tennessee this summer. After Phish performed with Jay-Z, I thought to myself, I bet they perform with Cardi B at Bonnaroo. Her set is going to be ???. Gear up for a rowdy party. She has picked up five GRAMMY nominations for her latest album. ODESZA The band of the 90s, if you want to call it the 90s. (Fatboy Slim reference.) Yes, Phish was officially the band of the 90s, but ODESZA will be the premiere act of the upcoming roaring 20s. That being said, I see this Bonnaroo as a passing of the torch between these two acts. Electronic and analog fans usually are from different crowds, but when it comes to being the premiere act; ODESZA is one of the only groups to give Phish a real run for their money in draw factor. In 2015, my sister-in-law asked me who I was interviewing next at Bonnaroo as we sat in the hot sun waiting for the next act on the What Stage. I responded, ‘ODESZA, if they don't blow me off.’ The people around us smiled at my self-deprecating humor. Later that day the duo spoke with me about their sound and future plans. ODESZA performed a late night set in 2015 and four years later they are taking over the music industry. Their 2019 Bonnaroo set will be legendary. My suggestion is to bring out the drone show and three guest spots. Make it one for the record books. Girl Talk One of my all-time favorite late night sets at Bonnaroo was Girl Talk in 2009. It was a packed tent full of rowdy guests with a mission to party late into the night. A collection of acoustic, international, soul, EDM, funk, rock, hiphop, and pop music will be available for guests to check out live on stage.
