Amazon has announced recently that they will be partnering up with Seattle eateries to provide a delivery service with Prime Now.
Mobile devices users can search in real time through menus, locations, and items, as well as placing orders for pick up or delivery.
Currently Amazon has this new system setup in Seattle, but the company has noted they will be adding additional areas of coverage in the near future. They have setup Amazon Prime Now in larger cities first, and tend to branch out due to demand.
“By offering restaurant delivery through Prime Now, we are able to reach customers who are craving our Skillet deliciousness, but don’t have time to swing by,” said Jon Severson, president, Skillet. “Now, with just a few taps on their phone, Seattle customers can get their favorite Skillet menu items delivered directly to their door in less than an hour.”
“We are excited to team up with Amazon’s Prime Now service to offer customers a convenient and fast delivery option for lunch and dinner,” said Scott Campbell, director of operations, Wild Ginger. “Working with Amazon allows us to align our product quality and customer service standards with a brand that our customers know and trust.”
Amazon has commented they plan to have this service deliver orders in under an hour. I would be careful with that comment though. After working years in the culinary industry, I find that larger restaurants will have problems during their peak hours meeting that demand. To help with this, Amazon has partnered with companies that can handle large scale production.
Amazon’s Prime Now service in Seattle will deliver food from local restaurants, including Cactus, Wild Ginger, Skillet, Marination Station, Re:public, Café Yumm!, Ten Mercer, Mamnoon and many more
During the introduction of Amazon Prime Now in the Seattle area, the company has noted that customers will receive free delivery. I would check with the restaurant first, and only expect this for a few weeks. After working as a delivery driver, I suggest still tipping delivery drivers, even if they get paid $15 an hour. It doesn’t have to be a lot, just help out.
“Prime members can now enjoy food from the Seattle restaurants they love without having to drive all over the city,” said Gus Lopez, general manager,Amazon Restaurants. “For many of these restaurants, this is the first time they are offering delivery, and we are delighted they have chosen to work with us.”
