The Online Farmers Market Opened on May 1
Residents in the Southern Illinois region will now have the option to order fresh produce from local farms to their homes with Little Egypt Alliance of Farmers (LEAF).
Southern Illinois farms that are involved with LEAF include: Laughing Possum Farm, All Seasons Farm, and La Colina Linda produce fresh food in Cobden. Flora Bay Farm and Shade Tree Farm are in Carbondale. River to River Farm is in Tunnel Hill. Five Hen Farm is located in Buncombe. Little Mill Creek in Rockwood, and BackAchers in Anna.
The current selection provides fruits, vegetables, herbs, meats, and goat milk. In addition, cow’s milk is about seventeen percent fatty acids, in comparison to goat’s milk that averages thirty-five percent fatty acids, making it more nutritionally wholesome.
The Little Egypt Alliance of Farmers website goes over the application process in getting setup with fresh food at your door. LEAF notes:
First, please complete the LEAF CSA Membership Agreement. CSA Member Form Agreements can be scanned and returned via email, or to the address at the bottom of the form (1620 Venable Lane Carterville, IL 62918).
Next, pay for your share! If you would like to pay for your share with a check please send it with your membership agreement. Visit our website to pay with a credit or debit card, under the CSA tab select PAY NOW. Just a reminder that you choose the size of your CSA share, and can invest anywhere from $200 to $500 at a time in a LEAF account. When we receive your payment a 5-10% bonus will be added to your account. At the $200 – $350 level you will receive a 5% bonus and at the $350-$500 level a 10% bonus. Your LEAF storefront account will function like a debit account, each purchase will automatically be deducted from your balance at the end of the market period (Tuesday evening).
