Explore the 2017 Solar Eclipse in Makanda, and Carbondale, Illinois On Monday, August 21, 2017 a solar eclipse took place spanning coast-to-coast in the United States. This marked my first time covering an astronomy-based event. I experienced a learning curve at the same time as working on production. Visitors and residents within Southern Illinois in the Carbondale area are set to experience two minutes and thirty eight second of totality. It is very important to not look at the sun during the eclipse if you are not wearing protective glasses. From 11:52 a.m. to 2:47 p.m. the eclipse will be passing overhead in Carbondale, Illinois. Uber and Lyft Arrives in Carbondale, Illinois

Two of the biggest ride sharing companies, Uber and Lyft, have recently begun providing service in Carbondale, Illinois. The city of Carbondale has amended part of ordinance to allow Uber and Lyft to operate, but that amendment does not take place until April 1. This has resulted in fewer drivers on the road in March.
