Silicon Valley by HBO Season 1, Episode 8 – Show Review
The season one finale starts off with the epic cliffhanger the show created when a judge from the Startup Battlefield attacked Erlich for sleeping with his wife. Administration with TechCrunch informs the Pied Piper team that they will be heading to the last round of competition for the violent outburst. Mike Judge and Alec Berg do an excellent job of writing storylines that play out over an episode, a string of episodes, during the season, as well as throughout multiple seasons. Pied Piper decides to check out their competition with Nucleus by Hooli. Richard and the team

Gavin Belson and his Hooli crew begin the seventh episode of Silicon Valley for season one. The engineers inform Belson that their version is ready for release at TechCrunch Disrupt. Belson and his managers fail to challenge the engineers in a corporate setting. The Pied Piper team shows signs of distress leading into the event. Jared and Gilfoyle setup their booth for
Silicon Valley by HBO Season 1, Episode 6 – Show Review
Richard and his doctor start off the sixth episode with dialogue covering Richard’s physical health. Their conversation displays the unhealthy amount of stress certain people experience as entrepreneurs. The show picks up on real trends in technology, and pokes fun of them such as cloud computing. Pied Piper is faced with needing a working demo of their product when competing at TechCrunch Disrupt. Austin Abrams performs as the hacker known as The Carver. He is brought in to help Richard develop code to integrate with cloud computing. When negotiating with The Carver, the team strikes a deal
Silicon Valley by HBO Season 1, Episode 5 – Show Review
The Pied Piper team goes looking in all the wrong places for a logo. Erlich Bachman recruits a street artist by the name of Chuy to get some edge added to the brand. Bachman arranges a deal with Chuy for $10,000 to create the logo. The total budget for Pied Piper is $200,000. In reality the logo should probably not cost five percent of the total operating budget. Another issue that is brought up in episode five is that Richard had submitted an entry for the TechCrunch Disrupt competition, and forgot to withdraw the entry. For startups
Silicon Valley by HBO Season 1, Episode 4 – Show Review
In the fourth episode of Silicon Valley Richard signs several documents with a new lawyer played by Ben Feldman. The show brings up incorporating the business in Delaware. When researching why investors would want to incorporate the business in that state, I found out that they do this to often register the company as a C corporation. If you are a startup that wants to acquire funding, and is ready to be incorporated, look into options in Delaware, Nevada, and your home state. It is wise to layout options when making a major business decision. Richard experiences the
Silicon Valley by HBO Season 1, Episode 2 – Show Review
At the Pied Piper launch party, Donald 'Jared' Dunn, performed by Zach Woods, decides to crash the small event at Erlich Bachman’s house. One of the comical inside jokes to the launch party is that the team is sitting at computers with the screensaver running. I mean sure, when I think of a wild party, I first think about turning on a laptop and watching the preset screensaver play through. Richard confronts Jared, and informs him that he has decided to partner with Peter Gregory. It is at this time, we find out that Jared is interested
Stanford University Tests Swapping Java for JavaScript within Computer Science
The Stanford University Computer Science program is testing out Javascript development to replace some of their Java-based projects. This transfer marks the first major change to their introductory CS curriculum since 2002. Stanford University and Codecademy reported: This new JS course is being piloted as an optional alternative to the older Java course, not a replacement. The two languages are very different. Prof. Eric Roberts explained that although 15 years ago Java was intended to be "the language of the Internet," JavaScript has since taken its place as the dominant language of the web. Many people hope that this change will

Talks at Google features the HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’ Cast for a Comical Discussion
Talks at Google will feature guest speakers to share industry knowledge within their field. Recently, they had the cast from HBO's Silicon Valley up for a lively discussion on the show. Thomas Middleditch, Kumail Nanjiani, Amanda Crew, Zach Woods, and Martin Starr brought their true colors out for their stop by Talks at Google. Kumail Nanjiani opens the discussion with a dig at Google for not having chairs in a viewing area. That is kind of low rent of Google to not provide chairs to their employees. Public libraries have chairs. I find Nanjiani's joke at the start to
