The Sundance Institute have recently announced eight projects that they plan to work on and develop with their documentary labs this year. Additionally, the festival announced that this year attendance grew to an all-time high of at least 71,600 attendees. The Sundance Institute continues their non-stop work by creating opportunities for international, national and native filmmakers. Eleven filmmakers will be joining the Sundance Institute for a virtual reality lab taking place over a week in the Utah mountains. This interactive session of filmmaking will expand the directors and producers abilities outside of traditional cinema, at the same time, giving a platform for new ideas to be voiced. Women in Film and the Sundance Institute have worked together to form a new program called ReFrame. This senior network of executives will be teaming with studios, networks, agencies and independent financing entities to build awareness and strength to women filmmakers. The Sundance Institute noted that ReFrame’s three initial offerings are: 1. Culture Change Toolkit ReFrame will introduce a Culture Change Toolkit tailored to film, TV and media executives and creative teams. Sundance Institute Explores Cinematic Virtual Reality with the Jaunt VR Residency Program
The Sundance Institute has recently added new virtual reality projects to the Jaunt VR Residency Program. Daniel Arsham, Yung Jake, and Lily Baldwin & Saschka Unseld are set to showcase their work in a six-month program designed to aid artists with breakthrough technology, virtual reality and immersive storytelling. The program will provide artists with new ways of delivering narrative through cinematic virtual reality and will have the opportunity to receive a grant to make their virtual reality short films. Independent Film Producers Align to Share Insight The Sundance Institute and Sundance Film Festival have announced their 2017 dates taking place January 19-29. In addition, the festival has announced that eight filmmakers will be spending a month in the mountains of Utah to build upon their filmmaking experience.
