Earlier this year, Viacom bought VidCon to help expand their digital presence. In addition to the waves at YouTube with demonetization, another similar conference independently setup shop in Anaheim. This year TanaCon, a rival event that was scheduled to host 5,000 people, was also being held in the same area of Anaheim, and experienced an overwhelming amount of people trying to rush the gate. It had to be shutdown,

Flipboard Breaks Ground on Digital Devices As a Publishing Platform With a Purpose

Digital Publishing Made Easy with Flipboard As a Web producer that works with multiple platforms to distribute data, I have connected with many of the major social networks, and one thing is clear, Flipboard has the best support team out of all of them. Google has good support teams for some of their products, but at times it could do better. When I have a problem with a product on a network, I will go to contact the company or leave feedback if there is no other way to communicate. What I have noticed is that technical issues happen all

Google and Youtube Speak to a Town Hall On Politics, Media and Technology

Join the Live Stream Discussion with Recode and MSNBC Google CEO Sundar Pichai and YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki speak with Recode’s Kara Swisher and MSNBC’s Ari Melber along with a town hall discussion. The conversation so far has focused on internal decision making, artificial intelligence, and the future of technology. It would be more progressive if the interviewers pushed for reform within Google and YouTube. A lot of these questions feel like they were screened. I would put far more pressure on transparency regarding their decision making process. "We actually recently committed, Google committed a billion dollar for job retraining

Before There Was Snapchat, There Was Vine Dom Hofmann, original co-founder of the Internet startup known as Vine, is working on a new mobile app known as v2 or V2. His business model is simple, Hofmann plans to improve upon current video streaming mobile apps with a new company. Vine was independently launched and acquired by Twitter in 2012. Four years later in 2016, Twitter announced that they would discontinue the posting ability for users, but still allow them to access an archive of the streaming content. CNN Makes Millions of Dollars Each Year in Net Profit, But Drops Beme and Casey Neistat

The Cross Section Between Independent Journalism and Corporate Media How many of the journalists that have reviewed the CNN departure from Beme ever startup a successful company? My guess is close to zero. As an independent journalist that has been reporting news with this outlet, in addition to working a full time job, I can say that Casey Neistat may have not been successful long-term with Beme, but at least he took the time to create something organic and attempted to work with corporate media. That is saying a lot more than most journalists. When I review the amount of

Net Neutrality In a Form of the Burger King Whopper

Pop Culture Dives Into the Repeal of Net Neutrality to Help Bring Awareness to the Unfair Treatment of Consumers Burger King is taking over the Internet with the best advertisement of the decade with 'Whopper Neutrality.' Bud Light has come up with a simplistic ad recently with the phrase 'Dilly Dilly, but Burger King has created an intelligent metaphor for the repeal of Net Neutrality. Both ads resonate with audiences, but I find the Burger King ad to provide depth and meaning, along with excellent product placement of their brand. The F.C.C. recently voted to repeal the regulations of Net Neutrality.
