Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Announced Dakota Access Pipeline to be Rerouted
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has announced today on Twitter that the Dakota Access Pipeline will not run under Lake Oahe as proposed, and the Army Corp of Engineers will be looking for additional routes to run the pipeline. For those unfamiliar with Lake Oahe, it is a large reservoir behind the Oahe Dam on the Missouri River. The Missouri River is the longest river in the Untied States. If the pipeline had gone under the lake, or if it gets close to a main river, it could still pollute drinking water. Not all pipelines malfunction, but enough of them do to create
The Standing Rock Native American Reservation has Become the Epicenter of the Environment
The Army Corps of Engineers sent a letter on Friday to the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe explaining that the violent confrontations have taken place, and they are shutting down the campgrounds, (area north of the Cannonball River, including the Oceti Sakowin camp). After December 5, protestors will be cited and charged with trespassing if still on the land. The trespassing citation is just a way for government to try and clear some of the land for the oil companies to dig under the Missouri River. According to standingrock.org, the website notes that: 'The tribe maintains jurisdiction on all reservation
Solar Power Running the Island of Ta’u in American Samoa
Tesla Motors and SolarCity has invested 5,300+ solar panels and 60 Tesla Powerpacks on the South Pacific Island known as Ta’u. The island of Ta’u has a population of a little over 55,000 people. The island is now being ran on 100% renewable energy. The power is transferred from the solar panels to Tesla Powerpacks where they can store up to 6 Megawatt hours of storage. With the Powerpacks ability to store energy, the island can go three days without sun, and still have enough power in the reserves to fuel the demand from the community. Fortune recently covered Telsa's progression in renewable energy
Amazon Adds their Fifth Renewable Energy Project in Ohio
Amazon Web Services recently announced that Wind Farm US Central 2 will be constructed in Hardin County, Ohio. This marks the fifth renewable energy project by Amazon. The company plans to produce 530,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of wind energy annually starting in December 2017. As one of the largest companies in the United States, Amazon is stepping up to properly provide energy to their services. The company and Business Wire has stated: 'In November 2014, AWS shared its long-term commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable energy usage for the global AWS infrastructure footprint. Ambitious sustainability initiatives over the last 18-24 months
Stream the Viral Climate Change Film ‘Before the Flood’ by Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio, actor and environmentalist, has just pulled off one of the most dynamic moves in contemporary filmmaking by releasing his latest documentary Before the Flood on YouTube. During his time working on The Revenant with Alejandro G. Iñárritu, DiCaprio found downtime to start production on his own film covering the controversial topic of climate change. Denmark currently operates on 100% renewable energy. Germany currently is being ran on 30% renewable energy. The United States currently has 13% of energy being produced by wind, solar and other forms of clean energy. Our country is clearly falling behind, and that is due to
Renewable Energy & Bioengineering Leads the Clean Energy Revolution
The U.S. Department of Energy continues to keep the public informed on the latest forms of technology. They published recently that close to a half of a million electric vehicles are now on the road. That connects to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 58%. When they report that costs for solar panels cost for solar panels have dropped 54% since 2008, I was able to find out more on those numbers with a recent report by the U.S. Department of Energy. They also recently noted: Land-based wind accounted for 41 percent of all new capacity
Governors of Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina have Declared a State of Emergency
Last week, Colonial Pipeline had an oil spill that took place on September 9 in Shelby County, Alabama. After the spill, more than a quarter of a million gallons of oil have been leaked into Shelby County. Oil and gas continues to create environmental issues across the world. As the United States rapidly moves toward renewable energy, there is still a large amount of energy being produced with oil and gas. The pipeline that burst starts in Houston and ends in New Jersey. It supplies a large amount of the gasoline to power automobiles in the eastern section of the
Elon Musk Lays Out Tesla Motors Plan for the Future
Develop a Self-Driving Capability that is 10X Safer than Manual via Massive Fleet Learning Elon Musk and Tesla Motors have laid out their upcoming plans for the company. These upcoming plans include: trucks, safer self-driving automobiles, producing solar panel roofing and hopefully creates a system to allow Tesla vehicles to make money for consumers. Solar City, a company focused on producing solar panel technology, has recently been in talks with Musk about merging together with Tesla Motors. Despite the company taking a financial hit after a fatal crash car involving their self-driving technology, Tesla Motors and the company has bounced
California Adds 20,000 New Jobs in 2015 for Solar Power
Solar Power In 2016 Solar power is one of the most common sources for renewable energy. In 2016, we take a current look at the jobs being added to the solar power industry, the kilowatts and gigawatts being produced, and how different states and countries are transitioning to clean, renewable energy. In an era of increased carbon emissions, the progressive minds of the world continue to work together to help reduce the damaging effects being caused by climate change. In an article from The Guardian, they report that: the US solar industry expects to install 14.5 gigawatts of solar power
Fracking Creates Record-Setting Earthquakes in California & Oklahoma
Environmental Tide in Favor for a Ban on Fracking The people have spoken. Fracking causes earthquakes. And with people, I mean scientists, geologists, journalists and academics all agree, hydraulic fracturing/fracking has not only caused more frequent earthquakes in Oklahoma, the United Kingdom, but also in California as well. The problem is now pushing Oklahoma lawmakers to take a stand. The New York Times recently reported: "On Monday, the state Corporation Commission asked well operators in a Connecticut-size patch of central Oklahoma to reduce by 40 percent the amount of oil and gas wastes they are injecting deep into the earth.
