Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle A solution to the massive amounts of greenhouse gases being pumped into the environment is currently underway with carbon engineering. The process takes large amounts of CO2 from the air and breaks it down with a filtration system. The BBC have also provided a report on the recent advancements with carbon extraction technology. In addition to reducing our overall carbon footprint, planting more trees, we can structure our communities around awareness and technology to bring balance back to the environment. Watch more on this topic with a YouTube video from CNBC. https://youtu.be/XHX9pmQ6m_s

Average Snowfall Records for Denver Has Been Down by Almost Half the Past Two Years In an era of our climate rapidly changing it is important to record and keep track of the annual snowfall and rainfall. In Colorado, I have noticed a swing in the amount of snowfall the state consistently produces on average. The National Weather Service noted that the overall average for snowfall regarding Denver is 57.3. Currently we are experiencing winters with almost half the average amount of snow. The National Weather Service at weather.gov has reported the following statistics regarding snowfall in the Greater Denver

Increased Storm Activity in the Northwest May Be Linked to Global Warming in the Pacific Ocean Over the past year the United States and additional areas around the world have been impacted by an increased amount of intense weather conditions. The number of extreme weather events has quadrupled since the 1970s.  Research on geoengineering begun in 1896 from a Swedish chemist know as Svante Arrhenius. The concept of controlling the atmosphere and the environment creates a large amount of debate regarding the regulation process. That being said, after the recent series of droughts and wildfires, we need to start seeking

Organic Farming in Colorado Provides the Tools to Engage the Community The residents surrounding Longmont, Colorado joined together for a community event hosted by Lefthand Watershed Oversight Group to celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 22 at Ollin Farms. Longmont has a thriving farmers market, and several members of the community collected to help lend a hand with a pesticide-free farm north of Denver. Adults helped informed and guided younger groups of people to plant trees, collect firewood, clear land, as well as work on creek restoration. Explore the 2017 Solar Eclipse in Makanda, and Carbondale, Illinois On Monday, August 21, 2017 a solar eclipse took place spanning coast-to-coast in the United States. This marked my first time covering an astronomy-based event. I experienced a learning curve at the same time as working on production. In the past, I have produced over 200 videos on YouTube, but this marked my first time producing a short film with narration that was over ten minutes in length. The story shows the events that unfolded during the 2017 solar eclipse in a very unique location from Southern Illinois. The 2017

The Science Behind Fungi being able to Detect Radiation in Soil and the Atmosphere

The University of Extremadura recently published research covering the connections between fungi and radiation. They uncovered that fungi can detect and measure the amount of radiation in the air and soil. The team measured the amount of radionuclides, (an atom that has excess nuclear energy, making it unstable) within mushrooms in Europe. Environmental Radioactivity Laboratory of the University of Extremadura (LARUEX) and Science Daily reported on the author's point of view: "This quantification is made using transfer coefficients that compare the radioactive content in the receptor compartment of the radioactive contamination, that is to say in the fungi, to that existing

A total eclipse will be taking place on Monday, August 21 across sections of the United States. This event will be the first total solar eclipse since 1918. The following states will have more visibility with the solar eclipse: Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Data from Space.com shows the cities that will have the peak totality for the 2017 solar eclipse. They point out the Hopkinsville, Kentucky will have the most time with two minutes and forty seconds to experience the eclipse. Carbondale, Illinois and Colombia, Missouri both will have close to two

Clean Technology Uses Solar Energy to Collect Water Molecules

By |April 15th, 2017|Categories: Economy, Environment, Featured, National News, Tech News, TED Talks, YouTube|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Traditional forms of water management is being tested and refined each year as the global population continues to increase. Recently, the American Association for the Advancement of Science reported that a group of researchers for Department of Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that it is possible to capture and collect water from the atmosphere with the use of low-grade heat produced by solar energy. MIT added that in a report last year in Science Advances they reported that four billion people, with two billion of those people living in India and China, continue to face “severe water scarcity at least one month of

Biotechnology is still a relatively new concept for the general public that utilizes technical methods to diagnose problematic cells in the body. A quick definition of the word: 'At its simplest, biotechnology is technology based on biology - biotechnology harnesses cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve our lives and the health of our planet. We have used the biological processes of microorganisms for more than 6,000 years to make useful food products, such as bread and cheese, and to preserve dairy products.' Despite having financial setbacks in 2016, the biotech industry continues to

The U.S. Department of Energy continues to keep the public informed on the latest forms of technology. They published recently that close to a half of a million electric vehicles are now on the road. That connects to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 58%. When they report that costs for solar panels cost for solar panels have dropped 54% since 2008, I was able to find out more on those numbers with a recent report by the U.S. Department of Energy. They also recently noted: Land-based wind accounted for 41 percent of all new capacity
