YouTube Moves to Vertical Video and TanaCon Experiences Growing Pains Anaheim, California is the home for VidCon, a annual video conference held primarily for YouTubers to network and share new content. This year TanaCon, a rival event that was scheduled to host 5,000 people, was also being held in the same area of Anaheim, and experienced an overwhelming amount of people trying to rush the gate. It had to be shutdown,

YouTube Fails to Realize they Should Be Regulated the Same as Film and Television

By |January 22nd, 2018|Categories: Entertainment, Featured, Film News, Google, National News, Pop Culture, YouTube|Tags: , , , , , |

YouTube Can Run, But It Can't Hide On Sunday, January 21 I reported that YouTube should start using a rating system similar to television for their original programming. Instead of contacting me directly, and asking for my help, the company did an interview with Newsbeat refusing to take responsibility for their actions the following day. This disgusts me on several levels. I was reporting clear and valuable information about the service. Instead of learning from their mistakes, they took the low road and tried to avoid responsibility. This is what drives away users from their platform. I would not expect this level

YouTube Rolls Out a New Guideline for Producers to Monetize Content

By |January 17th, 2018|Categories: Entertainment, Featured, Film News, Google, National News, Pop Culture, Tech News, YouTube|Tags: , , , , , , |

It Takes Money to Make Money YouTube and Google have announced that new channels will need to have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months to be eligible for ads. This raises the bar extremely high for new channels to start receiving ad revenue. That being said, it also raises the debate on the motive behind content production on YouTube. When I started producing videos on YouTube in 2008 my main goal was to help musicians obtain larger audiences online. Ten years later, this is still my main objective, as well as helping bridge

YouTube and Google Aim to Work More with Producers to Provide a More Refined User Experience

The Tech Giants Push Back Against Abusive Content YouTube and Google are teaming up to help monitor videos that are being shown on the platform. Recently, a YouTuber known as Logan Paul uploaded a controversial video that has put a spotlight on the topic of how distasteful videos become popular. After producing videos on YouTube for over a decade, and sharing content from the site daily, I have found myself questioning the motives of the company that I support. In a capitalistic country, it is common for companies to gravitate to generating revenue over moral obligations. We see this in the pharmaceutical,

A Faster, Smarter Way to Engage at VidCon Several large-scale events have transferred over to using RFID chips to allow guests in and out of certain areas. Recently, VidCon made the move to start using this technology at their 2018 event at The Anaheim Convention Center from June 20-23. The festival organizers have noted: 'in addition to a VidCon badge (as in previous years), you will need to wear a VidCon wristband, which includes an RFID chip, in order to gain access to the event.' VidCon also noted: 'You’ll pick up your badge and put on your wristband at the same

YouTube has Not Made a Profit, but Musicians Want More Money from the Streaming Music Service

YouTube is in hot water over their streaming music service with musicians looking to obtain more money for their content. Personally, I also want YouTube to start paying more for content. YouTube does provide a free server to upload data for their users. This is one of the many tradeoffs that major media outlets overlook when covering this debate. Another tradeoff is the search engine connected to the content. As a media producer that runs my own website, I completely understand the cost in providing server space for millions of users. That cost should be far more transparent. YouTube
