YouTube TV Joins the Cable-Cutting Movement Away From Traditional TV
The cord-cutting race to filling demand with a new generation is heating up with YouTube TV recently announcing that they would be launching a television streaming service. This step by Alphabet/Google is a more aggressive move to capture additional revenue for the company. Hulu announced recently that they plan to expand their 3D functionality with Oculus products. The online entertainment company has noted that Hulu VR will add social features for Oculus headset users. These social features will include creating and customizing an avatar that will represent you in virtual settings. Google+ moves into 2017 with a series of updates to help improve the user experience. These three main updates include: Hiding low-quality comments, zoom functionality, and the return of events. Google Taps Artificial Intelligence to Aid with Renewable Energy
Google continues to expand their presence in the renewable energy sector with a recent announcement of going to 100% renewable energy by 2017. Amazon and Google are both making major progress within clean energy development. In Google's case, they are using DeepMind, a United Kingdom form of technology, that uses artificial intelligence to solve problems. The Guardian reported: “We are convinced this is good for business, this is not about greenwashing. This is about locking in prices for us in the long term. Increasingly, renewable energy is the lowest cost option,” said Marc Oman, EU energy lead at Google.
Future Trends in the Media and Entertainment Industry
Augmented reality has picked up heat in 2016 with the release of Pokémon GO. The international sensation brought a new form of interacting in between entertainment and reality into the mainstream. Tour National Parks with Virtual Reality and YouTube 360
Last August, our country celebrated the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service. Google put together a virtual reality project in YouTube 360 to give viewers a taste of the eye candy within the National Parks. Kenai Fjords, a National Park in Alaska, is toured by a group of travel guides as they capture the natural beauty. Within the immersive viewing experience, this short film starts off with a group of rock/glaicer climbers rappelling down two sections of Alaskan ice. If you are watching the video below on a computer, users can toggle with the mouse to access different views.
