Nikki Lane is off to a hot start for her 2017 Highway Queen tour. The international tour has won over hearts at the Stagecoach Festival, as well as listeners on major radio and television stations. Her blending of affection and rebellion within music creates a special dichotomy. The Nashville-based country singer produces a soulful mix of alternative California country rock. Brandi Carlile is from Seattle, but reminds me of Nikki Lane's spirit. There is a revolution taking place in the music industry with a large influx of strong women leading the pack. Preview 'Jackpot' performed live on CONAN. Also check out that

The Hangout Music Festival makes Weekend at Bernie's look like a weekend at a regular beach, with no music. The film Weekend at Bernie's was released in 1983, and some of the people reading this article were probably not old enough to watch the film to get that first joke, but for those that had cable in the '80s, it was one of the only films on television. It was the Justin Bieber of entertainment. Hangout Fest 2016 crowd. Photo by: Matthew McGuire In 2016 at Hangout Fest, I made several jokes referring to that old film, and didn't get it

The album was produced by T Bone Burnett, and was recorded at Village Studios in Los Angeles. May had help from the same backing band that worked on Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand.   Her management shared a quote from Bob Dylan. “Imelda May, I like her.”—Bob Dylan She will tour North America this summer.
